Thursday, 22 August 2024, the Centre for Leadership and Professional Development (UM LEAD) hosted a Leadership Talk with Dr. Rozhan Othman to speak on his book ‘Strategic Management of Muhammad s.a.w.
Dr. Rozhan is one of UM LEAD’s panel of experts and has been a regular speaker at its Purposeful & Principled Leadership programmes. He is an academic who was a Professor at UTM, UKM, UPM, IIUM and Universiti Brunei Darussalam with over 30 years of experience in management research, consulting and training. He is currently attached with Human Capital Development Sdn. Bhd. developing Strategic Leadership Competencies Programmes
His motivation in writing the book stems from his opinion of a stagnation in Islamic management and leadership literature that focuses much on personal piety and individual qualities and moral values. He believes while piety is a good individual quality, it may be an insufficient measure for good leadership. He fears should this situation persist, the body of knowledge in Islamic management and leadership would stagnate. In his book, Dr. Rozhan works to uncover Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. 's management and leadership insights and relating its application to the current context; on how a leader creates a pathway towards a clear intended outcome. Utilising a strategic model to shift away from the ‘people to people’ model, he looks beyond Muhammad s.a.w’s human capability into other dimensions of Muhammad s.a.w. 's management and leadership. A more multi dimensional view of leadership that considers actions taken by Muhammad s.a.w. from a wider systems perspective. As our modern world too sees the convergence of many factors, a willingness to change perspectives becomes more urgent.
This insightful book delves into the remarkable life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), unravelling the strategic brilliance that shaped a transformative era. From diplomatic finesse, military strategy to visionary decision-making, discover timeless lessons that transcend centuries, offering a guide for leaders seeking to navigate challenges with wisdom and compassion. A must read for anyone who wants to be a leader.
