30 April 2025 - Our programme concluded meaningfully as the delegation from the Bangsamoro Attorney General’s Office (BAGO), Philippines explored Malaysia’s approach to Syariah law at the state level, as well as deepened diplomatic ties.
The day began with a visit to the iconic Shah Alam State Mosque, where participants reflected on Malaysia’s rich Islamic heritage and the integration of faith into public spaces.
This was followed by a comprehensive briefing at the Selangor Syariah Judiciary Department (Jabatan Kehakiman Syariah Selangor), led by The Honourable Dato’ Mohammad Adib Bin Husain, Chief Syariah Judge of Selangor. The session explored the jurisdiction, challenges, and governance of Syariah courts at the state level—providing valuable perspectives on decentralised Islamic legal systems.
The day ended with a warm reception at the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Kuala Lumpur, where Her Excellency Maria Angela Ponce, Ambassador of the Philippines to Malaysia, delivered heartfelt closing remarks. Her words highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, mutual respect, and sustained legal dialogue between the Philippines and Malaysia.

Throughout the programme, participants gained deep insights into the complexities and harmonisation of Syariah and civil law, and left with renewed inspiration to apply these learnings within the BARMM context.
